Assumptions
- Combined adjusted gross monthly income is $8,000.
- The payer income share is 62.50%.
- Because the statute publishes $50 points without a between-row direction, this estimator selects the nearest row and rounds an exact midpoint upward.
- Basic shared parenting does not create a separate overnight credit.
- The low-income Worksheet A limit does not change this result.
- The child count has its own statutory table column.
- Preexisting support, maintenance, overtime treatment, additional dependents, student loans, health insurance, childcare, extraordinary expenses, direct-expense credits, split custody, and deviations are excluded.

West Virginia changes worksheets after 127 days each
Worksheet A allocates the statutory basic obligation by income share and adds an ability-to-pay test when the payer earns under $2,600 monthly.
Worksheet B applies only when each parent has more than 127 days. It multiplies basic support by 160%, time-weights each income share, and offsets the results.
Worked example: basic shared parenting
- Combine monthly adjusted gross income and select the statutory schedule row.
- Allocate the basic obligation by the payer’s income share.
- If payer income is under $2,600, compare the result with the Worksheet A ability-to-pay amount.
The steps above follow the calculation method described on our methodology page.
Enter adjusted income from the worksheet
The statutory worksheet makes adjustments before combining income; this estimator expects those adjusted figures.
