Assumptions
- Inputs are monthly net income and are converted to weekly amounts at 12/52.
- Weekly income is rounded to the nearest $10 schedule row; parent shares and the weekly order follow the published rounding steps.
- Childcare, health insurance, unreimbursed medical costs, and deviations are excluded.
- Both parents’ weekly net incomes are combined.
- Connecticut provides no automatic overnight credit; shared-custody deviation remains judicial.
- Income is within the schedule.
- The published child column applies.

Connecticut calculates in weekly net dollars
Convert each parent’s monthly net income to weekly income and use the official $150-$6,000 schedule effective August 1, 2026.
A paying parent with less than $150 weekly net income owes no basic obligation. Up to $470 weekly for one child, rising to $830 for six, the darker low-income area uses the paying parent’s income alone.
Shared physical custody changes who pays but does not create an automatic overnight percentage.
Worked example: two children
- Convert $5,000 and $3,000 monthly net to weekly amounts.
- Round combined weekly income to the nearest $10 schedule row.
- Allocate the scheduled obligation by the rounded payer income share.
The steps above follow the calculation method described on our methodology page.

Connecticut child support calculator FAQs
Does Connecticut use gross or net income?
The schedule uses weekly net income.
How is monthly income converted?
This tool multiplies monthly income by 12 and divides by 52.
What happens at low income?
Below $150 weekly net, the paying parent owes no basic obligation. Above that, the darker payer-only area applies through $470 weekly for one child, $550 for two, $610 for three, $680 for four, $750 for five, and $830 for six.
Is there an automatic shared-custody credit?
No. Connecticut rejects a bright-line time formula.
What happens above $6,000 weekly?
The $6,000 row amount is the minimum presumptive obligation, and the maximum is combined weekly net income times the percentage printed on that row. The court sets the amount case by case within that range.
Can the court deviate?
Yes, with findings under the deviation criteria.
