Assumptions
- Both incomes are taxable wages within the official workbook table; non-taxable and self-employment worksheets are excluded.
- The receiving parent has primary care. Extensive time-sharing is excluded.
- Child care, health-insurance or cash-medical costs, and expense credits are zero.
- The official 2024 workbook retains its embedded income-conversion variables; this engine reproduces that published workbook rather than substituting current tax-return calculations.
Estimate only. The court or state agency calculation controls.
Hawaii guidelines, effective 2024-04-01.
Hawaii protects each parent, then shares added living standards
The worksheet converts gross wages to net income after its published tax allowances and a $1,693 self-support amount.
Primary need is $455 monthly for each child. Remaining combined SOLA income receives 10 percent per child, capped at 30 percent.
The total is divided by rounded net-income shares. Each parent obligation is at least $91 per child but cannot exceed that parent net income.
Worked example: two children
- Enter $5,000 and $3,000 taxable monthly wages.
- The workbook conversion supplies each parent net and SOLA income.
- Primary need and 20 percent SOLA are allocated by the rounded payer income share.
The steps above follow the calculation method described on our methodology page.
Use the correct worksheet path
Use this base version only for taxable wages and primary care.
Use the official separate worksheets for non-taxable income, self-employment, or extensive time-sharing.
